The suit. Long abhorred as a work necessity, it has recently seen a resurgence back to a staple in any man’s well balanced wardrobe. The general trend is a slimmer, shorter suit with narrower lapels. Double vents are most common, but a single vented jacket is still widely seen. Stay away from the unvented look, though, unless you’re wearing a tuxedo, as it does little to flatter your frame aside from the exceptionally slim. Most men are opting for two button, single breasted pieces with a medium height button-stance. Both notched and peaked lapels are popular, though a notched is still more appropriate for business. Just make sure the gorge is relatively high in order to avoid a dated look.

You’re still going to see the staple solids such as navy or grey, however many guys are taking fabrics of bolder check patterns, like a prince of Wales or glen plaid, and turning them into a full suit, sometimes even a three-piece. What’s more versatile than a three-piece suit where all of the pieces can be worn individually? If done right, nothing would stop you from pairing the pants from it with your favorite blazer, or even using the vest as a contrast piece with another suit entirely.
