Because it’s true. Because it’s not just the story of one man, it’s the story of us. The story of America. A country built by people with the courage to dream and the conviction to make those dreams come true. By questioning the way it’s always been done. By wondering what if. And asking why not. And by knowing that there’s another way. A higher road. A way that’s right and real. By leading, not following. Making a mark and leaving not just footprints, but blueprints for something better. Our way isn’t the fastest or easiest, but we think it’s worth the extra effort. We think you will, too. It’s a story that’s still being written with bold strokes by people who are driven not by a paycheck, but by a passion for a life well lived. People who make their choices based not on simply what looks good, but on what feels right. Like Trask. Because like so many other things that are worth pursuing, they don’t get old. They get better. And long after the others are relegated to the back of the closet, these are the ones you’ll count on. Day by day. Year after year. A timeless style that’s beyond trends, resistant to fads or fading away. An American icon that’s earned its reputation one step at a time, one generation after another. It’s our heritage and our story. Earlier Event: November 4 Hickey Freeman & Trask Trunk Show Later Event: March 17 Nackymade Eyewear Trunk Show

The Eclectic & Modern Man Khakis of Carmel • January 23, 2018 The Eclectic & Modern Man Jim Ockert, owner and buyer for Khakis of Carmel, is an artist at heart. He’s a man for the fine details, and when I visited him last week I was welcomed by his personal style resonating throughout the Khakis store located in bustling Carmel Plaza. Jim meticulously assembles every outfit adorning the 70 mannequins displayed throughout the store, down to the seasonal arrangements poking out between arched mannequin arms. I can’t say that some of the choices didn’t strike me as unusual, but they were personal, honest and they exuded confidence. Jim has created an eclectic and modern men’s clothing experience, and I’m told he takes such care in creating the Khakis experience to have even personally dictated the floral arrangements embellishing the outside of the store. He is a man with vision, a man guided by intuitive rhythms. When I met Jim, I was immediately struck by his outfit. He wore a slightly short pant with 2 inch cuffs. I admit that I was caught off-guard by the combination of cargo-style dress pant mixed with a double-breasted tweed plaid jacket. He appeared ready for a day of both business and pleasure. His bracelets were unusual. One burst with a shocking array of color; I’m told it was custom made in Ghana. The other, an Italian bracelet, featured a blend of earthy wooden browns. The combination offered the impression of a man that is passionate, but grounded. He wore tasseled Edward Green shoes, and his 15-year Panerai watch was something that particularly drew my eye. Jim’s tie featured unusual texturing with rich blues and browns. I hear his favorite ties are all made in England. When I spoke with Jim, the unique elements of the store and his attire came together. He spoke with enthusiastic fervor about his personal favorites, including Drake’s ties and Nackymade glasses. He guided me through the sprawling store, pointing out little eccentricities, such as a unique display of bowties playfully attached to meticulously polished seismic support beams. While these personal touches might go unnoticed by the casual observer, they accentuate the unique flavor of the store and tastefully augment the total experience. I started to understand how this design philosophy mirrors the styles of Jim’s most adored classic drummers, including Ringo Starr and Charlie Watts (here’s a surprise, I hear Jim is quite the drummer!). At Khakis, the spirit is in the subtlety and the character is in the bold. The whole experience is personally tailored by an artist with the passion, creativity and free-form ingenuity to turn his favorite materials and designs into unique, ebullient works of art. I’m inspired to up my style game with a few new pieces from Khakis of Carmel. Next Shoe Care – Khakis Style
Shoe Care – Khakis Style Khakis of Carmel • November 7, 2017 Shoe Care – Khakis Style When it comes to shoe care you need to invest a little time and pride, your freshly polished shoes will elevate your entire wardrobe. After countless pairs, from Alden to Edward Green, one thing is for certain; regular care and quality products will keep your shoes healthy, pristine and long lasting. This level of appurtenance defines your commitment to your persona and honors the appreciation of bench-made footwear. We use Saphir shoe care products for all shoe maintenance. Tools needed Shoetrees Horsehair shoe brush dark hair for your dark brown, black and cordovan shoes light hair for tan and blonde shoes Damp cloth Dry smooth cloth such as an old t-shirt don’t use terry as it will absorb the product Saphir Renovateur Saphir polish if needed use dauber for application Saphir Sealant Cotton chamois cloth Step One – Cleaning Remove laces – optional Insert the shoetrees so you can apply pressure as needed. Dust away loose dirt with your brush. Wipe with your damp cloth to remove any lingering polish or residues. Step Two – Conditioning Grab the Renovateur, with two fingers tightly wrapped in your cloth, apply a dime size amount and thoroughly work into the entire top of each shoe. This step not only cleanses and nourishes the leather, but more importantly it opens the leather’s pores. Let it sit for about 15 minutes before brushing off with the horsehair brush. Step 3 – Polishing Cream With the leather prepared to accept polish, sparingly apply small dabs of the color cream evenly over the shoe. It’s a bit waxier than the Renovateur so make sure it dries evenly. Let it sit for about 10 minutes before brushing off with the horsehair brush. This process can be repeated up to 3 times, just be careful to not build it up in the creases. Jim’s “shoe-nut” pro tip: Use a shade darker than the leather to bring out details and patina. For the burnished antiqued look, small dabs of black on the toe and heel areas. Step Four – Sealing When it comes to the sealant, less is more. The sealant is a finishing wax that closes the pores. For a higher shine, go with a wax that’s beeswax based. In very small dabs, circle the wax around. Don’t rush, and don’t try and do the whole shoe at once. Work thoroughly, inch by inch. Each shoe should take about 15-20 minutes to coat. Let it sit for about 15 minutes before brushing off. This step can be repeated if you’d like a higher or more even shine. Step Five – Finishing Grab your cotton chamois cloth around, give the shoe a quick wipe down. This will remove any excess shoe care and give the leather that brand new, polished look. Jim’s “shoe-nut” pro tip: Place the shoes in their shoe bags for 24 hours before wearing. This allows the shoes to completely absorb the product, and love, you’ve given them. Step Six – Enjoy Lace up, look down, feel proud. Previous The Eclectic & Modern Man Next Unlined Delapré Dover
Unlined Delapré Dover Khakis of Carmel • July 10, 2017 Unlined Delapré Dover Jim has put together a version of Edward Green’s iconic Dover, that could be worn year round in any California climate. Unlined for added flexibility and breathability. Cut in a french delapré that will mold to your foot quicker than a calfskin. Built on the E82 last, you get an elegant almond toe shape the compliments the split toe. Minor contrast stitch, and natural tan soles play off the leathers dark brown, while adding subtle detail. Good to wear with jeans and a sweater, trousers and a coat or simply a suit. Since the 1920’s the amount of handwork the Dover requires has not changed. It’s apron and split toe feature are still hand sewn with a boar’s bristle needle. The bristle is split down the middle, giving the cordwainer a thin and malleable tool that provides a lot more arc when threading through the leather. A signature style shoe with it’s five eyelet derby lacing and intricate handwork. Available in store and online, in both our instock collection and made to order.
